This is the complete set of all fifteen icons are from the famous Stavronikita Festal Set, considered to be some of the masterpieces of Christian iconography. They were painted by the monk Theophanes the Cretan in 1546, at the height of his artistic expression. These famous icons still adorn the church of Stavronikita Monastery on Mount Athos, where Theophanes labored for years painting both portable icons in egg-tempera, and wall-paintings which cover much of the main Catholicon church. Due to the age of this set, a few of the icons show the state of damage in the originals with some of the canvas beneath the layers of gesso showing through.

The use of the images of these icons and parts of their descriptions are used with permission from the world's leading distributor of Orthodox icons —
